2009/2010 Spyder modification

To fit 2011 spindles

For 2011 we have slightly modified the spyder spline to more closely match the Specialized spyder shape, so that Specialized spyders can be mounted on Lightning cranks with minimal play.

2011 spyders will fit on older Lightning crank spindles, however the 2009/2010 spyder splines need to be enlarged slightly to fit the 2011 spindle. The spyders can be filed using a ½″ (12mm) round file, file each of the spyder spline gooves for 5 to 10 strokes (See following picture). Then verify the spyder fits on the spindle spline. If it doesn’t, file for another 5 to 10 strokes until it fits.
